Why pre solar inspections matter

Solar panels last 25 to 30 years. The roof underneath needs to last at least as long. If solar gets mounted on a roof with 5 to 10 years of remaining life, the homeowner faces a removal and re install cycle in the near future that costs thousands in addition to the roof replacement itself. The avoidable scenario hurts the homeowner and creates support headaches for the solar installer.

A documented pre solar inspection from a licensed roofing contractor gives the homeowner clear information before signing the solar contract. Most reputable California solar installers now require this documentation. We built our program to support that requirement with fast turnaround and a report format that fits straight into the customer file.

What we document

  • Estimated roof age and remaining useful life
  • Deck condition assessment with photos
  • Structural capacity notes when relevant
  • Existing penetration condition (chimneys, vents, skylights)
  • Drainage pattern documentation
  • Ventilation assessment
  • Recommended repairs before solar install, if any
  • Recommended timing (install solar now vs replace roof first)

If the roof needs work first

Sometimes the right answer is to replace the roof before installing solar. We coordinate timing with the solar installer so the customer can complete both projects without delay. Replacement first plus solar second is almost always cheaper than installing solar on a tired roof and dealing with the removal and re install in 5 to 10 years.

If the roof is ready

Most of the time, the report says the roof has 15 plus years of remaining life and is ready for solar. The solar installer uses the report to plan racking, flash penetrations to spec, and confirm to the customer that the investment is sound.

How we work with installers

Two ways to use the program

Per project referral

You refer customers individually as solar projects come in. We schedule the inspection, deliver the report to the homeowner and to your team, and follow up on any required repairs.

Standing inspection partnership

Your team includes us in the standard customer onboarding flow. Every project gets a pre solar inspection automatically, with a streamlined report format and direct line to a senior roofer for any installer questions.

How to start

Schedule your first pre solar inspection

Call the office at (833) 369-7663 and mention solar inspection. We confirm the property address, the proposed solar install timeline, and schedule the roof inspection within 48 hours. The report goes to the homeowner and, with their permission, directly to your team.

We do not install solar ourselves and we do not compete for that business. We focus on what we do, which is roofing. The relationship works because the incentives are clean: we want your customer to mount solar on a roof that will last, and so do you.
